EuroTrash Thursday!

3 hours 48 min ago
Message by Alastair Hamilton
A little bit quieter on the race front, but don’t forget the Classics start this week-end with the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne. Valverde has taken control of Andalucía and we catch up with the last cyclo-cross of the season. ”Top Story” is about paying to watch cycling, not a nice thought, but it’s possible. And we finish with the Colnago Sweater Guy at the Tour of Flanders…were will he be this year? Coffee time for EuroTrash Thursday.

A Man For The Cobbles: Clinton Avery

“If you were Belgian, you would have already been in the Pro Tour for three years…” That was the harsh verdict the Lotto team laid down on New Zealand’s Clinton Avery, explaining why, despite his five years of European results, and a very successful stagiaire period with Radio Shack, he could not get a pro contract. The new Champion System Pro Cycling Team, which snatched him up for 2012, might have very well saved one of the great talents in the sport.

PEZ On The Scene: Rapha Condor-Sharp In Spain!

Message by Alastair Hamilton
It’s not all World Tour teams, Tour and Classic winners and International Professionals here at the PEZ Spanish HQ. The guys at Rapha Condor-Sharp might not be riding the Tour or the Giro this year, but the team is organized like they are and the riders attitude is just like any Continental Pro. A day with Rapha Condor-Sharp in Benidorm!

Training and performance are often referenced as points on a continuum. Each day you begin your training at a certain level of freshness and fitness intent on achieving the most bang for your training buck. But are you shooting fish in a barrel or shooting yourself in the foot?

PEZ Talk: American Trailblazer Bob Mionske

Mon, 20/02/2012 - 15:39
Message by Edmond Hood
The Olympic road race, Seoul – the year is 1988 and it’s the first big East/West Olympic showdown since the Montreal Games 12 years before. East German Olaf Ludwig restored Eastern honour in Seoul, with West Germans Bernd Grone and Christian Henn taking the other two medals; legendary Soviet sprinter Djamolidine Abdoujaparov took fifth. But in fourth place was an ex-skier who’d only been riding a bike for four years, who says he couldn’t ride GC, couldn’t time trial and in his own words, was ‘built like a wrestler’ – Bob Mionske.

EuroTrash Monday!

Message by Alastair Hamilton
There was so much racing at the week-end that I’ve had to leave a couple bits out of EuroTrash Monday, but don’t worry we have the usual results and video’s for your information and enjoyment. ”Top Story” is about drugs (again), this time footballers and confirmation of something we’ve suspected for a while. OK, lots to see and read, you’re going to need a large coffee today!

PEZ-Clusive: Finnish Champion Pia Sundstedt

Sun, 19/02/2012 - 05:00
Message by Gordan Cameron
Those of you who spend too much time at work (cough, of course I mean personal leisure time) browsing through the results lists of women’s road races might just have noticed a familiar name cropping up towards the tail end of last season. After time out to assume a dominant position in the world of endurance cross-country mountain-biking (XCM), Finland’s Pia Sundstedt is back on the road … with a vengeance and an eye on next summer’s London Olympics.

Top Rides: Col de la Madone

Message by Richard Pestes
Great scenery, a spectacular climb, a twice as long descent, and even a record from Lance – this climb along France’s cote d’Azur is must do for any fan of great rides. The capper was meeting up with a PEZ-Fan who lives nearby for a great day on the bike.

PEZ-Clusive: Team Sky’s Olympian, Ben Swift

Fri, 17/02/2012 - 15:19
Message by Gordan Cameron
Pretty much every possible tabloid pun on Ben Swift’s surname has already been done to death, so we’ll waste no time in getting to the meat of the story. The twenty-four year old has had an almost perfect career progression to date. Starring as an amateur with a string of results in Italy, Ben Swift moved on to Barloworld and then rode the Giro with Katusha, before joining the Team Sky juggernaut in 2010. He took a fistful of big wins in 2011, but what about 2012?

Tour Winner Cadel Evans Gets PEZ’d!

Tour de France winner, World champion and new father - what more could Cadel Evans want from life? Well, he wants to do it all again, the Tour and the Worlds bits anyway, much less paperwork involved. A lot has happened in the life of Cadel Evans in a year, time to be PEZ’d.

EuroTrash Thursday!

Message by Alastair Hamilton
The Pro scene has moved on from Qatar to Oman and from the Méditerranéen to the Algarve and we have the videos and the results to prove it. ”Top Story” is about Andy Schleck winning the 2010 Tour de France and wanting to win the 2012 edition. Herning cancelled, NetApp for Flanders and Roelandts back in hospital. Some other handy news and videos and my homage to Marco Pantani. Sit back, have a coffee at hand and get into EuroTrash Thursday.

Thor Hushovd is one of the new guys at BMC, but he has a lot to bring to the table for any team. Classic wins, Tour stage victories, point’s jerseys…the list goes on. A Classics man with a lot still to do and he has the right team behind him to do it. Let Thor speak!

The Contador Case: What's Missing

Pantani Roadside: Chasing le Tour 1998

Tue, 14/02/2012 - 16:17
Message by Alessandro Federico
February 14th takes on a very different meaning for fans of pro cycling, this year marking eight years since Marco Pantani’s tragic death. But in 1998, Il Pirata was at the top – winning the rare Giro – Tour double. Ale Federico set out from Genoa on his new moto to see the race for himself, and recorded the odyssey in his personal diary…

Contrary to what you may think, at whatever level in which you’re racing, the technical and physical aspects of cycling don’t usually determine the winner. So, on any given day, what separates who dons, for example, the Tour de France’s yellow or green jerseys and who stands a step or two down on the podium?

Lee Rodgers' Qatar: Looking Back

Mon, 13/02/2012 - 15:31

From afar, the Tour of Qatar looks like a curious early season sideshow ball-buster staged in some far off desert - a windy one at that. Over the last week, PEZ has gotten the unique opportunity to peer inside the race courtesy RTS Racing's Lee Rodgers. Let's go back for one more look at Qatar.

EuroTrash Monday!

Mon, 13/02/2012 - 08:07
Message by Alastair Hamilton
The 2012 season is well underway, Boonen wins Qatar for the fourth time and Viviani dominated the Giro della Provincia di Reggio Calabria, but the surprise of the week-end has to be Endura’s John Tiernan-Lockes two stages and overall win in the Tour Méditerranéen. I give my opinion on the Jan Ullrich affair in ”Top Story”, BMC & Omega-Quick-Step for the next races, the Tour of America announces the Dairyland Pro-Am Cycling Series and we find a scandal in Italy. We also have a big choice of video action for EuroTrash Monday, coffee anyone?
